Rooted in ancient traditions, Raja (pronounced as Raw-Jaw) marks the symbolic menstruation of Mother Earth, recognizing her fertility much like that of a woman. The festival spans three days, coinciding with the arrival of the monsoon, which signifies the beginning of the agricultural season. During this time, women, especially young girls, take a break from daily chores, adorn themselves in new clothes, and celebrate with swings (doli), folk songs, and delicious traditional sweets.
